January’s Home Improvement Bucket List

This year, I decided to make January the month that I finish up all the odds and ends of the little (and big) projects I have been working on. I’m NOTORIOUS for not finishing things. It’s kind of a point of contention between my husband and I. And, to be honest, between myself and I.

I will buy the materials for a project. I will plan the project out in an uber detailed manner. I might even start the project. But I never, ever, ever finish it- Not unless I give myself a swift kick. And I’m laughing just thinking about my husband voluntarily finishing a household job.

In any regard, I thought I would share my nearly finished Mudroom. It’s even more finished than it was Here. Notice I went with the IKEA bench, but in white instead of red. And I finished the floor. I also found some artwork to put up on our little ledge and scraped the paint off the door, which made a HUGE difference in light and space issues.

Our “Nearly” Finished Mudroom!

A few things are still unfinished… like the missing hook, a missing piece of the lower trim, and the transition strips aren’t painted or installed. I also need to decide if I want to keep the decoration in the corner or along the other wall. And finally, I need a runner or area rug to try and keep the white floors, stairs, and upstairs floors a little cleaner. This is the one I’m leaning toward:

All of that will be finished by the end of January. I also hope I’ll have my new 50mm lens by then to take better photos of the space. :)

A Few More Things I’d Like to Finish in January:

-Finish the trim in playroom

-Paint that spot in Bug’s room from where we filled a hole.

-Finish Preston’s dresser doors

-And fix the holes in the kid’s bathroom

-I’d also like to get the railings on the stairs painted the same color as the trim. (See Below)

Since we ripped out the carpet and put hardwood down, the railings don't match ANYTHING in the house and need to be painted. Agreed?

And if I finish all of that in January, my first project of February will be the Laundry room.

This is what I’m working with right now (ugh, no judging!):

My goal is to make it pretty, and functional, and not spend very much money on it. :)

What do you think? Maybe a touch ambitious? Probably… But that’s how I roll. What about you? Do you have any home improvement projects that are left unfinished? Or some that you keep meaning to start? Maybe you should join me in tying up those loose ends of 2012 so we can move on with 2013?

Happy Friday!

Until next week…

xoxo,

Kyra

  1. Nice- have you ever checked out younghouselove.com? I think you would like it and get some great inspiration for the laundry room !

  2. Thanks for the input, Cheryl. We ripped the carpet out because it was SOOO gross and I don’t regret it at all! I DO regret letting my husband be in charge of watching over the floor installation, because it is NOT installed how I had intended it to be. But, oh well, such is life. Can’t wait to see your dining room! You should post before/after pics!

    • We believe we have hardwood under ours, so it should be a simple, inexpensive fix! Whenever we get around to it I defintely will post pictures!
